4 Ways to ground yourself without walking outside barefoot.

For those of us in the Northern hemisphere it is starting to get chilly outside. From a Chinese Medicine perspective this means for those of us who love to ground outside barefoot – this is not ideal.

Why? Because the ground is cold.

Why does that matter? Because on the bottom of your feet you have a point called Kidney 1 there. And that point is on a meridian that goes right up into the body’s genitals, and you do not want cold there.

Why? Well this can lead to hormonal deficiencies. And I’m not just talking about a drop in fertility (though that too). I’m talking about: cramps, nausea, headaches, and all the negative symptoms associated with cycles. And those imbalances are just a few of the many issues with having cold in the body.

So how do you help yourself ground while not putting your bare feetsies on the ground? Great question. Here are some of my favorite ways:

  • Jumping up and down (doesn’t have to be big jumps (I do tiny ones), we just want to wake your feet up!)
  • Eating root vegetables (roast them in the oven, yum!)
  • Rolling out your feet (think fascia balls, tennis balls, etc.)
  • Eating mac and cheese (this is one of my favorites, but really anything with a nice fat and a salt –ideally with a salt not stripped of minerals so sea salt)
